I was tagged by Sara at The Bibliophagist for the Secret Life of a Book Blogger tag! I love Sarah; she has been so welcoming to this blogging newbie. And her blog is kick-ass – be sure to check it out!
1. How long have you been blogging?
I started my blog about 18 months ago, but I’ve only been doing it with any frequency for about 11 months.
2. At what point do you think you’ll stop blogging?
Hmmm….. When I run out of things to say? I blog about books, which I will never run out of, so that’s a hard question to answer.
3. What is the best thing about blogging?
I’m going to basically copy Sara’s answer and say the community. I have other friends that read, but not many who read as much as I do, or who read the same kinds of things I do. It is so nice to “meet” people who are as book nerdy as myself! I love you all!
4. What is the worst thing? What do you do to make it okay?
I don’t like giving negative reviews. I hate it, because even though I know constructive criticism is helpful, it can still hurt to hear it. But I make myself do it for two reasons: 1. It really does help. Authors can only improve their writing if they know what’s not working for their readers in the first place. And 2. I feel it makes me more credible as a blogger and reviewer. I mean, c’mon, no one like everything, right?
5. How long does it take you to find make/find pictures to use?
I mostly use the actual covers of books as taken off Goodreads, though I am starting to experiment with some graphics for my Instagram. Those only take me a couple of minutes each though.
6. Who is your book crush?
Again, I’m going to borrow from Sara and say, “Who isn’t my book crush?”
My first was probably Cam from Wait For You. Most recently, Taylor from King of Code. Most vehemently? Either Matt from Dating-ish or Duane from Truth or Beard, Joshua Templeman from The Hating Game or maybe Dex Locke from Under Locke….
I can’t decide; see the book slut quote above!
7. What author would you like to have on your blog?
OMG, there are so many! My favorite authors are like rock stars to me. I’d die to talk to any of them! But I’ll say Penny Reid (duh!), Jenny Han or Mariana Zapata.
8. What do you wear when you write your blog posts?
Usually pajamas. I write from bed a lot. Like, right after I finish a book. Sometimes I write on my lunch break so I write in work clothes (business casual, people).
9. How long does it take you to prepare?
Not long, actually. I keep a running tab in my bullet journal about blog ideas that I have and which books I want to review (though I review almost every book I read). I make notes in my kindle as I’m reading so it takes me a few minutes to review those before I get my thoughts together.
10. How do you feel about the book blogging community?
See my comment above. I love it! Everyone has been so welcoming.
11. What do you think one should do to get a successful blog?
Hmmm…. I’ll let you know when I figure it out! LOL
Having finally reached 50 followers after blogging almost a year, I don’t know if I would call this blog a success. But, honestly, that’s not why I blog. I’ve always loved reading. And in the last several years I have developed a love of writing. This blog gives me the opportunity to write about what I love most. And through the great community I am always finding even more books to read. To me, the friends that I’ve made (and I truly do consider many of you friends) and the great books I’ve read… those equal success.
Again, Sara, thank you for the tag; I appreciate all the support you’ve given me! I’m going to tag some of my favorite bloggers. But if you don’t feel like participating (or you’ve already done this one) I totally understand. Noooo pressure!
