Good Boy

good
Goodreads / Amazon

By Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy

When I decided to pick up Good Boy I thought I had read the entire blurb for the book:

Hosting her brother’s wedding for an MVP guest list is the challenge of Jess Canning’s life. Already the family screw-up, she can’t afford to fail. And nobody – absolutely nobody! – can learn of the colossal mistake she made with the best man during a weak moment last spring. It was wrong, and there will not be a repeat. Absolutely not. Even if he is the sexiest thing on two legs.

Short and sweet, yes, but enough to intrigue me (I love the brother’s best friend trope). Plus it was written by Sarina Bowen and Elle Kennedy. I like them so I was in! Plus, hello? Hot dude with a dog on the cover. I love hot dudes with dogs!

But as I said yesterday on my WWW post, I somehow missed that this was about a hockey player! I LOVE hockey players!

I know! I know! How could I have missed that?? Elle Kennedy loves hockey and there’s even a freakin’ hockey stick right on the cover! What can I say? I saw nothing but a hot guy with a dog!!!

It turns out I didn’t read the entire blurb. If I did I might’ve understood that Good Boy is part of a new series, WAGs, that is a spin-off of the Him/Us duet!

*sigh*

I really enjoyed this one. It has a lot of humor and our hero, Blake Riley? He is utterly adorable. He reminds me a lot of everything I loved about Mal in Kylie Scott’s Play. Except he’s a hockey player, so even better. LOL

He’s obnoxious, but in a lovable way. He’s just so goofy you gotta love him. But hidden beneath all the humor and horniness is a heart of gold.

Jess Canning is a character I can relate to a lot. She’s done with school. She has a career but she still feels like she never really accomplished her dreams. It’s time for her to buckle down so she doesn’t take Blake or his overtures very seriously. Until she does….

I really appreciate that the love story between these two was not rushed. It would have rung very false to me. Instead, it happened more slowly. As the reader, I fell in love with Blake long before Jess did and I prefer stories like that.

Four stars (ok, maybe 4.5….)

Can’t wait for Book 2 in the series, Stay, currently at the top of my TBR!
